From Campus to the Heart of the Diocese
Earlier this month, we had the joy of hosting two vibrant gatherings with alumni, supporters, and friends—one in Peoria and one on campus in Champaign. Each evening was a beautiful witness to the fruits of our shared mission and the enduring impact of St. John's Catholic Newman Center on the lives of students past and present.
On May 2, we welcomed alumni and friends for a special evening in Champaign. The event began with Mass and continued with a festive reception in Lewis Lounge. Those gathered were moved by personal stories from students and a FOCUS missionary, all echoing a common theme: God is at work at the Newman Center and students here are prepared for lifelong connection to Christ. One student put it beautifully:

In Peoria, the gathering at Obed & Isaac’s offered a perfect setting—warm hospitality, lively conversation, and joyful reunion. We were blessed by the presence of graduates, future Illini, and friends from the Diocese, along with chaplains past, present, and future. The highlight of the night was hearing testimonies from two FOCUS missionaries and a graduating student, each sharing how the mission of St. John’s has shaped their faith and future.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us and who continues to support this mission. More events are on the horizon, and we look forward to reconnecting with even more of our extended Catholic Illini family. Keep an eye out for upcoming Alumni & Friends events coming to your city next school year.
